I started my first skate magazine in 1999. It was called International Longboarder and it eventually morphed into Concrete Wave.
You can see a little bit about what I do at the website, but you might find my blorum (blog/forum) over at www.silverfishlongboarding.com a little more interesting.
WHY CONCRETE WAVE?
There are close to 20 skateboard magazines published worldwide. Concrete Wave aims to be completely different from every single one of them. Our philosophy is 100% skateboarding. This means showcasing ALL types of skateboarding.
Our goal is to publish a skate mag that is so good, you’ll want to put it in your will. Here is an excerpt from our first editorial that details our philosophy.
"Maybe you've always ridden a skateboard. Maybe you left skateboarding but got pulled back in because they built a new skatepark in your town. Maybe seeing a longboard at your local shop inspired you to take it up again. Perhaps the new Dogtown film or the internet rekindled your interest. Whatever the case, you've come to the realization that skateboarding remains one of the most meaningful things in your life. However, there seems to be a bit of a disconnect between your love for skateboarding and what you see presented in the media.
We are here to reconnect you.
We are here to inspire you and draw you closer to skateboarding. Perhaps, like me, you believe that skateboarding today has become a little too heavy on marketing and a little light in terms of variety. You sense that this has led to an environment of conformity. We are here to provide you with images and information that will challenge you and make you think. Concrete Wave magazine will take you back and move you forward. ”
The vision expressed in this editorial will continue to be the cornerstone of Concrete Wave.
We promise not to waiver from it ... ever.
