Katrina vanden Heuvel, Editor and Publisher of
The Nation, received the 12th Annual Exceptional Woman in Publishing Award at the FOLIO:Show yesterday.
After accepting the award from Dorothy Kalins, EWIP's 11th annual recipient, vanden Heuvel spoke with eloquence and passion of the achievements she has seen from the women with whom she works, and her colleagues at other publications.
Taking risks, working cooperatively, and embracing the future are some of attributes she sees in the successful women around her. She expressed her pride in women in publishing as they learn new skills and find new areas of strength on line and in print.
The Nation, America's oldest newsweekly at 145 years of age, has seen many changes as it has grown. Today it is as powerful a force on line as it is in print; and new initiatives are in store. Do not fear change, vanden Heuvel told the assembly. Do not fear the future. It holds much good, it is ours to take and shape.
EWIP (Exceptional Women in Publishing), formerly WIPP (Women in Periodical Publishing) has been celebrating women in publishing since 1999. A complete transcript of vanden Heuvel's speech will be found at
